Main classifications of butterfly control valves

Jul 03, 2026 Leave a message

Butterfly valves can be classified according to multiple dimensions, including their structural mechanism, connection method, actuation method, sealing material, and functional application.

Based on structural mechanism, they can be mainly divided into eccentric butterfly valves and central (concentric) butterfly valves. Eccentric butterfly valves can be further divided into single eccentric, double eccentric, triple eccentric, and variable eccentric butterfly valves, depending on the eccentric design. Concentric butterfly valves dominate the butterfly valve market, accounting for approximately 60% of the market share.

Based on connection method, they can be divided into flanged butterfly valves, wafer-type butterfly valves, etc.

Based on actuation method, they can be divided into manual butterfly valves, worm gear butterfly valves, electric butterfly valves, pneumatic butterfly valves, etc.

Based on sealing material, they can be divided into resilient soft-seal butterfly valves and metal hard-seal butterfly valves. Resilient-seal valves have better sealing performance, while metal-seal valves generally have a longer service life and can withstand higher operating temperatures.

Based on functional application, they can be divided into high-performance wear-resistant butterfly valves, corrosion-resistant butterfly valves, high-vacuum butterfly valves, sanitary butterfly valves, telescopic butterfly valves, fully rubber-lined butterfly valves, and multi-layer hard-seal butterfly valves, etc.
